Latest news about Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies. Your daily crypto news habit.
Over the past few weeks, bitcoin markets have slid from the near $20K price region all the way down to $6K territory and thereâs one crowd who is loving it every time bitcoinâs value dumps. The group called âButtcoinersâ stem from the Reddit forum /r/buttcoin, and anytime something bad happens to bitcoin this band of proud internet trolls celebrate.

Over 18,000 Shills
The Reddit forum /r/buttcoin has been around for years now trolling bitcoin enthusiasts anytime the community receives negative news. Buttcoiners have a Twitter handle, a Buttcoin Foundation, and a very popular subreddit. Since bitcoinâs meteoric rise in 2017 and the subsequent price decline in 2018, Buttcoin subscribers have grown exponentially in number. Currently there 18,444 âCaptains of the Industryâ subscribed to the Buttcoin subreddit, and there are around 855 subscribers âshillingâ right now. The groupâs forum really started picking up significantly over the past six weeks during bitcoinâs 65 percent decline. Further, the administrators of Buttcoin say although they love to celebrate bitcoinâs failures the group doesnât hate the cryptocurrency.
âI feel like every once in a while we must clear this up: Buttcoin is not anti-Bitcoin, itâs pro-comedy,â sayâs Buttcoinâs Twitter account. Â
And Bitcoin produces a lot of comedy.
âIf Bitcoin Dies We Do Tooâ
Perusing through the groupâs forum shows a lot of memes, negative bitcoin articles, and Twitter links to well-known figures who dislike bitcoin. For instance, you can often find Peter Schiffâs or Paul Krugmanâs tweets being upvoted to the front page on /r/buttcoin.
Today Buttcoiners are celebrating the fact that the exchange Binance is temporarily down for maintenance and theyâre making fun of bitcoin traders who are freaking out. They laugh at ICOs who scam people and run off with investor funds, while also poking fun at the tether fiasco as well. However, this week an original Buttcoin member who calls himself, âBarry Onersâ stated in an interview that Buttcoiners really donât want to see bitcoin die.
âIf bitcoin dies, we die too â I sincerely hope bitcoin never dies,â explains Oners.
You Know You Canât Bet On the Price Correctly â But You Can Surely Bet Buttcoiners Will Be There to Celebrate Every Time Bitcoinâs Price Falls
The Buttcoin community is just as lively as any other band of cryptocurrency supporters, but theyâre not. They are united because they aim to mock the common bitcoin userâs errors, losses, and the protocolâs faults. Just like the price memes on the Reddit forum /r/bitcoin celebrating the price going up, when bitcoinâs fiat value plummeted below the $7K zone Buttcoiners cheered with glee. One particular shill wrote that evening:
âWe are about to break the $7k barrier; everybody get to the boardroom â We have caviar, champagne, and bonuses for all of you!â
