Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, relies primarily on technology to regulate content, eliminating certain manual checks and preferring to restrict distribution rather than completely banning particular speech, according to its new head of trust and safety, speaking with Reuters.
In fact, automation refers to “the method of making a device, process, or system run automatically.”
Ella Irwin, Twitter’s VP of Trust and Safety Products, has stated that the company is putting the squeeze on potentially abusive hashtags and search results in areas like child exploitation, regardless of the impact on “benign uses” of those terms.
In the first interview with a Twitter executive since Musk’s takeover of the social media platform at the end of October, Irwin said that the “biggest thing that’s changed is the team is fully empowered to move fast and be as aggressive as possible.”
Researchers have reported an increase in hate speech on the social media platform since Musk declared a leniency for accounts banned under the platform’s previous leadership that had not breached the rules or engaged in “egregious spam.”
Twitter And Musk Have A Toxic Relationship
Since Musk cut half of Twitter’s personnel and given an ultimatum to work long hours, resulting in the departure of hundreds more employees, the firm has faced critical concerns about its capacity and willingness to filter dangerous and illegal content.
It was previously reported that Twitter users will soon be charged $20 per month to be verified. Twitter’s staff size has been decreased by Musk’s decision.
However, he has defended his actions by saying the company is losing over $4 million each day, therefore they have no alternative but to take drastic measures.
Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 million. Since then there have been many adjustments in the industry and certain worries have been voiced by experts.
President Joe Biden of the United States recently made the comment that Elon Musk’s purchase of the Twitter Platform is an outfit for disseminating disinformation. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, also weighed in on Musk’s Twitter takeover.
