From Jan 1st, 2023, we have changed the reward system for validators that help us secure the Aleph Zero network on the Testnet.
Following the Discord announcement, this is the third round of validator airdrop rewards, although this time they are handled slightly differently. The most important changes–they are no longer airdropped retroactively and are available only to validators active on both Aleph Zero Mainnet and Testnet. This means that any validator that meets the new rules will get an airdrop for validating in eras between Jan 1st, 2023 and Feb 28th, 2023.
Introducing New Incentivized Testnet Rules
Although the rules stay mainly the same, there are changes that will allow us to reward those who contribute to the Aleph Zero network by maintaining the nodes.
To be eligible for the rewards, you must:
- Maintain an active validator node on both the Mainnet and Testnet
- Participate in validating on eras between Jan 1st, 2023 and Feb 28th, 2023.
- The exact rules for calculating rewards are described in the next section.
- Edit your Testnet validator application form to include:
- Your Mainnet account to which the coins will be sent,
- Your Mainnet stash account,
- IP address(es) of your node. If your node will have multiple addresses over the rewarded period, include them in a comma-separated list.
- Add the checkbox confirming you are not located in a sanctioned jurisdiction.
If the form status changed to ‘Pending’, that won’t have any effect on your eligibility for the rewards. There’s nothing to worry about.
AZERO Airdrop: Thank You For Supporting The Network!
The amount in rewards will be calculated similarly as in the previous rounds–that is, 10 AZERO per era of active validation. Since this time it is required to validate both on Mainnet and Testnet in order to be eligible for rewards, your Mainnet node must be in the era committee for at least 10 eras between January and February 2023. If that requirement is met, you will receive additional AZEROs for each era that your Testnet node has been actively participating in.
We appreciate every single validator who contributes to securing the Aleph Zero network. We recognize the cost and effort required to run a node, which is why we want to extend the Incentivized Testnet program for another round.
As a reminder for the validators active in previous rounds, we will be airdropping the rewards on Jan 9th, 2023 for those that filled out the validator form by the deadline of Dec 31st, 2022. Those that will meet the second deadline of Jan 31st, 2023 will get the airdrop on Feb 6, 2023.
Dropping the Previous Retroactive Rewards
As you might have noticed, the previous rounds have been rewarded in a more retroactive manner. This meant that only the validators that had been active before the incentive announcement were eligible for the airdrop.
This decision had been made to reward the validators that share our values and contribute to the network, while not solely pursuing the airdrops. The purpose of such a setup was to recognize their honest pro-ecosystem approach and say ‘thank you’ for that.
However, while we were clear about the rules and stand by them, we think the simpler they are, the better for the overall clarity among the community and the validator experience.
This is why from now on–while the airdrop will happen after concluding a round of Incentivized Testnet–we will reward all the validators who participate in the activities on both Mainnet and Testnet, during the mentioned timeframe of Jan 1st, 2023–Feb 28th, 2023. If you wish to join, being ‘too late’ is no longer the case.
Questions?
If you have any questions about the validation, it’s best to ask them on our validator-related channels on Aleph Zero Discord as we are able to get you the answers directly there.
