Wylie Aronow, co-founder of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection developer Yuga Labs has taken a leave of absence due to his health condition. According to a Tweet from Wylie also known as Gordon Goner on January 28, the decision to take a leave of absence was necessary as his health was deteriorating.
Wylie also noted that he has been experiencing some mild symptoms for a year but has neglected them due to the love of his company and the things he needed to put in place.
Unfortunately, things got worse for him and he had to see his doctor who ran a series of tests and diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. As such, Gordon has no choice but to pay more attention to his health irrespective of what it will take.
However, Wylie’s decision did not affect nor stop him from being a board member and strategic advisor to the firm, although he won’t be part of the day-to-day planning of the firm. He is positive and hopeful that this year will be greater and better for the company, whether or not he is available to control the affairs of the firm.
Yuga Labs Appoints new Executives
In another Tweet, the Miami-based company pledged its full support to Wylie as he embarks on his journey to get back on his feet. Recall that in December 2022, the blockchain technology company appointed Activision Blizzard’s COO Daniel Alegre as CEO. The appointment will see Alegre work with the co-founders to expand the company.
Interestingly, Alegre’s appointment as CEO has made Wylie confident and self-assertive. In other words, the co-founder is not worried about the future of Yuga labs.
Additionally, the developer of the popular BAYC NFT also hired Spencer Tucker as Chief Gaming Office in September 2022 to lead its charge into the Web 3.0 gaming industry. The company will draw from Tucker’s well of experience as he oversees all of the company’s gaming initiatives as well as the ‘Otherside’ metaverse projects.
The firm has now introduced a new twist to the process of minting Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in the form of an online game to allow players to steer through a sewer to earn rewards.
