Microsoft to Integrate Non-Custodial Crypto Wallet With Edge Browser

American multinational Microsoft is looking at integrating a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet into its web browser Edge and has now begun the testing process.

According to technology-based media website Bleeping Computers, Microsoft is also now in partnership with ConsenSys to provide an in-built crypto swap feature between several digital assets and stablecoins including Ethereum (ETH), Uniswap (UNI), Dai (DAI), USD coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT).

Once the Ether crypto wallet is launched, Microsoft Edge users can transfer and receive cryptocurrencies as well as Non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Albacore, who first spotted the new crypto wallet, posted screenshots of it while also expressing his confusion that this may be another new Microsoft Edge feature. 

One of the screenshots shared by Albacore explained that “This is a non-custodial wallet, meaning you are in complete control of your funds. We will not have access to your password and recovery key. It is embedded in Edge, making it easy to use without installing any extension. 

Not sure how users will react to this new Microsoft Edge crypto wallet but part of the screenshot showed that “As a tester, you will use your own funds. In the event of loss of funds, Microsoft will not reimburse any loss. This is a confidential project and no details should be shared externally.”

Another screenshot showed that the ether wallet has been integrated with the crypto exchange Coinbase and Moonpay. Albacore tried to explain how he stumbled upon the non-custodial wallet. “I mostly do software research and reverse engineering. That’s how I ended up discovering the wallet functionality in the first place,” the Microsoft sleuth tweeted.

Microsoft Edge Begins Testing Crypto Wallet

For this initial phase which is more of a limited test phase, the non-custodial crypto wallet is likely only available to Microsoft Edge Dev Channel users.

Bleeping Computers conceded to have sampled the wallet and while some Crypto Twitter members have argued that the wallet can’t possibly belong to a browser, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the tech giant is waiting for feedback from users.

“At Microsoft, we regularly test new features to explore new experiences for our customers. We look forward to learning and collecting feedback from customers but have nothing further to share at this time.”
