- Boundless service from Risc Zero that utilizes ZK-proofs
- It aims to address scalability and cross-chain compatibility issues
- There is potential for applications in crypto, AI, and identity
Risc Zero announced Boundless, a new service aimed at addressing blockchain scalability challenges such as limited bandwidth and cross-chain integration complexities.
Using ZK-proofs, Boundless promises to significantly improve blockchain performance by eliminating the need to re-execute transactions, that could impact entire sectors ranging from DEX to AI.
Solving Blockchain Scalability Problems with ZK-proofs
Boundless leverages the power of ZK-proofs to address the limitations of requiring nodes in the network to re-execute all transactions. Current constraints such as Ethereum’s bandwidth, showed an average of 14 transactions per second past 30 days, demonstrating the need for such solutions. With ZK-proofs, blockchains can verify the correctness of computations, avoiding the costly re-execution of all transactions.
Risc said:
“The current paradigm, where on-chain applications require global re-execution of all transactions, faces scalability limitations. Although more nodes make the network more secure, they don’t enable more capacity as everyone must re-execute all data.”
The new approach aims to help bypass traditional barriers that slow down transaction execution times and increase transaction processing costs.
“The latest generation of zero-knowledge proofs enable computations orders of magnitude larger than previously possible, at costs orders of magnitude lower.”
Boundless Perspectives
Boundless has the potential to be used as a full-stack solution in a variety of applications, including DEXs that can provide functionality similar to centralized exchange platforms, as well as for creating artificial intelligence and digital identity.
The new opportunities presented by ZK-proofs technology will enable the integration of functions such as AI interaction with transactional outcomes, as well as the creation of wrappers for centralized identities, thus expanding blockchain applications.
“They include “DEXs with CEX-like UX, accessing the liquidity of all chains, verifiable AI interactions with on-chain results, and ZK-wrappers for centralized IDs.”
Conclusion
Technical improvements aimed at overcoming the famous trilemma that has been a stumbling block for the entire history of the blockchain industry are always a good initiative.
If such an initiative shows good results and meets expectations, it could be a big breakthrough, especially considering Boundless’ focus on being a full-stack solution.
Let’s keep a close eye on the metrics and how much of an impact this will really have on the industry’s infrastructure.
