Earlier this month, Nvidia has announced that they are working on Turing – a new architecture we will see in their future GPUs.
Today, as we all expected, Nvidia has launched their new-gen gaming GPUs based on the new architecture.
The main innovation of Turing is hardware support of real time ray tracing – a complex technique that can deliver extremely realistic lighting effects. Trying to reproduce this technique on any other card is often impossible due to the amount of resources it takes to render it in real time.
Nvidia has opened the preorder of RTX 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti cards, which are meant to be used in gaming. The Quadro RTX series, intended for professional use, are expected to be released by the end of this year.
As for today, the price of the new cards is not that big: the Founders Edition RTX 2070 will cost $599, the RTX 2080 – $799 and the RTX 2080 Ti – $1,199. FE cards come overclocked and with a different cooling solution than the 10xx series. The new series feature dual fans instead of the classic FE single blower fan design.
The cards can be preordered now on Amazon, as well as on the official Nvidia site. Once preordered, the shipment date is estimated to be September the 20th for the 2080 and the 2080Ti, and October the 20th for the 2070.

Nvidia RTX 20xx Mining Performance
There is still little known about how these cards will perform in mining. The overall increase in clocks, memory bandwidth and memory speed should in theory affect the mining speed of certain algorithms.
Also, it is still unknown whether there will be a way to use the new Turing cores to hash.
It is known that the 2080Ti power consumption should not be more than 200W, which is quite good taking into account its compute capabilities. If the right drivers will be released, I suspect that the new RTX 20xx cards could become great miners.
In Conclusion
Most of the new cards can be now preordered on Amazon. The hype is insane though, which means that there are already severa; models by certain manufacturers that are no longer available.
If you want to be among the first ones to try these cards out and either use them for mining or resell later on, now is probably the right time to preorder. Personally, I am preordering some for my rigs simply because the price might increase a lot on the near future, as it happened to other modern GPUs over time.
