Dairy Farmers Of America Adopt Blockchain
Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) is an organization that has partnered with food fintech startup ripe.io. The partnership allows DFA to pilot a blockchain-powered project that is geared toward improving the food supply chain.
The partnership shows that the DFA is embracing blockchain technology to enhance supply chain transparency. The project will utilize the ripe.io platform to map out data from DFA member farms and manufacturing plants. According to David Darr, a VP at DFA: “Consumers today want to know where their food comes from and blockchain technology, like ripe.io, gives consumers real-time data, which can really help increase trust and confidence about food production from start to finish.”
Darr also discussed DFA’s intent to assess the technology and to determine how it can benefit the organization. DFA is not the only organization to adopt blockchain technology. Recently, Holland’s largest supermarket chain partnered with Refresco to use blockchain technology to ensure the production chain of orange juice is transparent. Further, U.S. retail giant Walmart and its Sam’s Club division will require suppliers of leafy green vegetables to apply a tracking system based on blockchain technology by September 2019.
