Ethereum Takes Back Second Place As Largest Crypto by $900K, Leaving XRP To Sit In Third
Upon visiting any crypto-related statistic pages, i.e. CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin [BTC] always remains number one, with the thousands of others fighting to move up ranks.
In reality, the rankings are based on each cryptocurrency’s market capitalization, with BTC always leading the way. Over the course of some time, Ethereum [ETH] had held and slipped out of second place because of the ongoing competition it had with the XRP token.
As of November 2018, Ripple held onto second position firmly, which got many surprised at first. However, the fight was really apparent that both XRP and ETH have taken turns holding second position. As of January 2, 2019, ETH takes its second position back by a landslide. At the time of writing ETH’s market capitalization is approximately USD$15,911,886,649, whereas XRP is sitting at USD$15,030, 876, 238, amounting to a difference of just under USD$900K as seen on CoinMarketCap.
Interestingly, ETH seems to have witnessed the most change in 24 hours within the top ten cryptocurrencies, as its value has gone up by approximately 12.26% (USD$152.77), followed by Litecoin’s 6% (USD$32.83) and EOS’ 5.35% (USD$2.75). It is important to note that the increase in ETH’s value is too soon to praise, as its value has witnessed an increase within a short time span of just 2-3 days starting December 31, 2018.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we’ll be seeing more fights for second place in 2019 or do you believe ETH is sitting in the safe zone? Let us know in the comments below!
