Cryptopia, an exchange based in New Zealand, has gone offline due to a major hack. The company announced news of the hack on Twitter this morning. In its tweet, the company stated:
â Cryptopia Exchange (@Cryptopia_NZ) January 15, 2019
As of now, the exchange has said how much has been stolen or what kind of breach they experienced. But on Sunday two tweets from Whale Alert may be some indication or it could have been a normal transfer:
19,391 #ETH (2,438,152 USD) transferred from #Cryptopia to Unknown wallet

48,029,306 #CENNZ (1,176,596 USD) transferred from #Cryptopia to Unknown wallet

Right now, Cryptopiaâs website is offline and in scheduled maintenance mode as the company works to determine the source of the hack and whether it can retrieve the funds.
Iâm interested to see how the Cryptopia hack plays out, how much was lost & whether they were negligent in storage. Will they be able to refund users given their size & the state of the market. I suspect many smaller exchanges wonât survive this and the bigger ones will benefit! pic.twitter.com/VMkNJS3n12
