The team behind Verge (XVG) has made two prominent announcements this year regarding both their blackpaper and their codebase.
The first announcement is that the fifth version of their blackpaper is now available online. The second announcement is that the alpha version of the fifth Verge Codebase is now available on Github.
The Blackpaper
The blackpaper goes into detail about the current state of the XVG network as well as what is in store for the future.
Among the things listed is its TOR integration. TOR stands for The Onion Router, which was the initial name of the project. TOR essentially allows anonymity while making use of layered circuit-based network.
It does this by directing traffic through a free worldwide volunteer overlay that has more than seven thousand relays that help conceal userâs location and other information and ensuring their privacy.
Its I2P integration was also discussed. I2P serves the same purpose as TOR, which is to ensure privacy. However, it is built to function as ânetwork within the internetâ and traffic stays contained within its borders. The core difference between I2P and TOR integration is that the former provides packet-based routing and the latter provides circuit-based routing.
Other things discussed in the blackpaper were the use of the Electrum wallet, Atomic Swaps, and Rootstock integration.
The Codebase
Also announced was the release of the Alpha version of the 5th Verge Codebase. The version out now is on Github and is only available to developers.
The purpose of this version is to test potential vulnerabilities and bugs before beta release takes place.
The reason for the rebasing of the code was that the network was hacked multiple times in the last year and this new version is designed to both be free of vulnerabilities as well as having some features unique to it such as stealth addressing and TOR.
The new Codebase is also free of the BTC login bug that was identified last year.
âWe already took our time to investigate this issue within our latest codebase and we came to the conclusion that we arenât vulnerable to this kind of attack. As added security, we are going to include the bitcoin fix into our new codebase as well,â the team said.
For now, the team is responding to feedback from developers before beta testing will take place.
