Online advertising is going crypto with Ethereum.
A new crypto plugin will allow WordPress publishers to receive ad earnings directly into their Ether (ETH) wallets, according to a Dec. 10 plugin description posted on the WordPressâ official website.
Called âEthereumAds,â the plugin will enable content publishers to auction advertisement space for ETH using smart contracts. âAfter you inserted our widget your ad space is automatically openly auctioned off using our smart contract every two weeks to the highest bidder,â the official description reads.
According to the EthereumAds website, the WordPress plugin plans to compete with Google AdSense, allowing publishers to earn ETH through banner ads. EthereumAds specifically promises to provide publishers with lower commissions: âGoogle Adsense only pays you 68% of your ad earnings. We on the other hand pay you a whopping 90%.â
The new ad plugin is applicable to any type of content like websites, blogs, billboards and is not limited to crypto-related content.Â
As EthereumAds intends to compete with major ad monetization platforms like Google AdSense, it remains to be seen how traditional ad platforms deal with their crypto rivals.
Providing the worldâs largest ad monetization platform, Google has had some issues with crypto in the past. In April 2020, Cointelegraph reported that Google AdSense was running fraudulent crypto ads while prohibiting some legitimate crypto firms from using its service. Google Ads previously blacklisted keywords mentioning Ethereum, as reported in January 2019.
