Security fixes for Trezor Model One and Trezor Model T
This month’s firmware updates contain important security improvements for both Trezor hardware wallets. The potential exploits below were discovered internally and have not been detected in use. We have published more information on these in an accompanying blog.
Details of firmware security updates May 2022
To ensure you are fully protected, just update your Trezor firmware to the latest version using Trezor Suite. Our thanks go to security consultant Christian Reitter, who detected the downgrade vulnerability and worked with us to develop a fix.
Cardano smart contract support
Cardano support on the Model T has been extended to now also include Plutus smart contracts for transactions from the Alonzo era onward. This will allow Cardano users to securely interact with and sign transactions to smart contracts using keys held on their Trezor.
Ethereum handling improvements
Both Trezor models now feature a ‘hold to confirm’ dialog when signing an EIP-1559 transaction.
Firmware updates also include fixes for EIP-712 domain-only hashes and specific message types.
Other firmware changes
QR codes shown on the Trezor Model T screen are now optimized to scale according to the type of address being rendered.
Both devices now show explicit success confirmation on the device when verifying messages using Sign &Â Verify.
Several coins are no longer supported: GAME, NIX and POLIS.
Trezor Suite updates
Along with a large number of visual improvements, this update polishes up the Trezor Suite user experience in a few other places, covered in brief below.
Suite Guide
The Suite Guide is still growing and we’ve added image support to help you learn more about what Bitcoin features do, troubleshoot any errors, and get comfortable with self-custody.
Custom node settings
Connecting to your own node is now that little bit easier, as Trezor Suite will now remember your node’s address when you set a Custom Backend, and let you select which node you want to enable connections to.
It is also now possible to set a custom Electrum server backend connection when using the Bitcoin Testnet.
Tor stability fixes
We’ve made a couple of improvements to the Tor implementation to improve connection stability when Tor is enabled. The first change will ensure data is correctly displayed when recovering from a dropped connection, while the second allows Trezor Suite to determine if Tor is already in use.
Notifications with anchor links
Notifications are now able to link directly to a specific region or toggle within Trezor Suite, making it easier to find your way around the most important features and settings.
