The metaverse might seem like a diffuse concept for some but the fact is that it's a booming market predicted to reach $678.8 billion by 2030. However, like all new technologies it doesn't come without potential issues and concerns. BanklessTimes.com has looked into the newest research on this and here's what we found:
- 61% of adults are concerned about sexual harassment in the metaverse
- Depending on their gender, age, political and religious beliefs there's a difference in how metaverse users feel about the threat of harassmentÂ
- During the last two years we have already seen examples of sexual harassment being reported
This could be an indication that it's time for stricter regulations in the metaverse.
"While opinions about the threat of sexual harassment in the metaverse differ among demographics, the reports show concerns are mounting across the board, so there may be a need to impose stricter regulations in the metaverse to prevent sexual assault and penalize offenders," says Jonathan Merry, CEO of BanklessTimes
