The BABB token sale has finished and the BABB team is disembarking from the rollercoaster.
Keen as we are to move on to delivering the next phase of development, we think we’re allowed a tiny moment of reflection. We thought you might find it funny to get an inside glimpse into the important real-world skills we’ve developed from running our token sale…
1. Being on reality TV
You might have noticed we love to live stream. Transparency has been hugely important to us from day one and putting our faces on camera has become a big part of everyday life. Our resident videographer David has a camera which never sleeps so we’ve all had to get used to the fact that we’re always being watched. We’ll have a Diary Room in the office next…
2. Letting wannabe-Casanovas down gently
You can’t deny BABB is a good-looking, friendly team and we interact almost constantly with members of the community on Telegram, often in private messages. Nevertheless it was a surprise to us all when we started getting offers of dinner, dates and even marriage. We’re very flattered guys — but we hope you understand why we had to keep things professional.
3. Knowing the time on the other side of the world
We’re a global company with a community of 176 different nationalities and agency partners in every corner of the world. As such, we try to do important events and announcements at 12pm London time, to try and catch as many people as possible when they’re awake. But we’ve become really good at knowing by heart the time difference to Japan, Canada, Russia, the west coast, Australia, India…you name it.
4. Rebuilding plans
Since this time last year we’ve had dozens of lightbulb moments which have later blown a fuse. We’ve built, shattered and rebuilt hundreds of plans; plans which seemed world-beating until someone (a lawyer, a developer, an adviser…) told us it wouldn’t or couldn’t work. Then it was back to the drawing board. It’s been a crazy learning curve and we’ve learned the hard way not to be too precious about our ideas or get too attached to our plans.
5. Dealing with FUD
Okay, so, strictly speaking FUD did not come as a surprise. While the vast majority of the people we’ve met during the token sale have been good-humoured and supportive, it would seem there are some nasty trolls out there. Without naming names, some people seem to have a serious talent for presenting weak, unsubstantiated opinions as fact.
We weren’t sure whether to discuss FUD in this post, but we think it’s worth mentioning. It’s a difficult balance to strike; answering genuine questions without feeding the trolls and taking constructive criticism without giving undue attention to meaningless FUD. We hope we got the balance right.
We also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who had our back in the Telegram group and on social media. We’re very lucky to have you in our corner, and we know it.
On a more serious note, a lot has changed in the blockchain and crypto landscape since we set out on our token sale journey. We’ve seen huge volatility in coin prices, rode out the storm of uncertainty as governments and regulatory bodies get their heads around crypto and token sales, and cheered as the likes of the Bank of England adopt a broadly pro-blockchain position.
We’ve been galvanised by a lot of the positive sentiment which has persisted in the fintech industry throughout this period. We’re particularly encouraged by the openness and optimism of the banking sector to embrace innovators such as BABB. There is huge support out there for the BABB mission, and it’s becoming clear that the winds of change are blowing in our favour.
We’re more determined than ever to get our bank accounts into the hands of the people who need them. Regulated, blockchain-based banking holds a huge amount of promise for the billions of people around the world who are excluded from, or underserved by, traditional banks. We believe great things can happen when we’re all connected.
So it’s time to look to the future! We’re sure there are plenty of lessons left to learn as we forge our way ahead — and we can’t wait to get stuck in.
We’d love it if you wanted to stay up to date with our progress on Telegram.
