With the aim of making the Lightning Network (LN) more advanced by introducing another new way of connecting and exchanging data, a Swiss IT professional has surgically inserted a Lightning-enabled chip into one of his hands to make seamless payments on the LN.
The announcement did not reveal the IT guru’s real name although he is called F418. F418 in the announcement said he was just experimenting with the LN payments using his body and was doing it for the fun of it. However, the fun play resulted in the invention of a chip that he tried using for payment but failed at the first attempt.
A new Innovation in the Lightning Network
Following his first attempt, the IT expert visited a professional medical practitioner to assist him in the removal of the chip before repeating the procedure for the second time. Interestingly, the second attempt was successful, hence payment was made using the chip which was successfully inserted into his right hand.
Although medically proven to be free from health challenges, the chip also imposes a number of risks with its procedures. F418 expressed his satisfaction saying he doesn’t feel any pain with the chip in his hand. Likewise, with the chips in his hand, he does not need a smartphone or a card to make Lightening-Network payments.
Similarly, anyone with the chips in his or her hand just needs to place their hand across a compatible NFC reader to initiate payment from their bank account.
Yet the issues with such chips, (and what causes concerns), are unlike the bolt-card which is secured, one can only do LNURL withdrawal with the chips. Unfortunately, the chips have to be implanted well without mistake as it causes a lot of damage to the body once it is repeatedly taken in and out of the body.
Beautifully, it is the most convenient Bitcoin payment as it makes transactions fast and easy, not requiring additional materials. F418 called the process “Lightening Paw” saying it is accessible to everyone but users should be very cautious health-wise.
