ConsenSys, a blockchain technology firm has revealed a new gateway to Ethereum (ETH) by incorporating Lido and Rocket Pool for staking on the popular crypto wallet MetaMask. With the new incorporation, users will now have access to stake their ETH directly from the app.
MetaMask in collaboration with liquid staking service providers Lido and Rocket Pool will afford users to directly stake crypto via its browsers and mobile wallets. Users will also be able to view their tokens (stETH and rETH) on the crypto wallet app with ease. Before this integration, users had to visit the service provider’s website to access this service.
Additionally, the company stated that users will be able to convert their corresponding tokens back to ETH using the wallet app. Although, it is not going to be entirely free. Interestingly, this added feature by MetaMask comes months ahead of the Ethereum network’s planned Shanghai hard fork that will allow users to access staked assets for the first time since after the merge.
Therefore, for now, users will be unable to withdraw staked Ether and whatever earn yield that it accrues.
To meet up with the March deadline for the Shanghai upgrade, the Ethereum development team after its All Core Developers meeting has set February 2023 for the public testnet of the Shanghai hardfork. This is in order to avoid any setbacks while it continues to work on code changes that might likely delay its launch timeline.
MetaMask Enters Partnership to Provide Better Service
To improve user experience, ConsenSys, the blockchain firm behind the crypto wallet integrated PayPal into the MetaMask wallet to allow users to easily buy Ethereum. The collaboration made MetaMask the first Web 3.0 wallet to use PayPal to improve on-ramp transaction success.
Meanwhile, ConsenSys, MetaMask’s wallet operator, asserted that its recent upgrade was not done in response to any regulatory inquiries and that the upgrade affected only its language.
This was in response to critics who complained that it expanded the breadth of its data collection. Subsequently, the infrastructure provider issued more comments about the privacy policy amendment after its community riot.
