Latest news about Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies. Your daily crypto news habit.
What’s interesting about cryptocurrency is that it has become a natural extension of the ideals and philosophies of those who use it. As such, cryptocurrencies have been used not only to make teenage millionaires, but to also contribute towards the greater good.
Recently, Vitalik Buterin of the Ethereum Foundation donated $2.4 million to the SENS Foundation, which is dedicated to eradicating the diseases of old age like Alzheimer’s. Another cryptocurrency based philanthropic organization called The Pineapple Fund has been giving out money left and right to all sorts of worthy causes, like clean water protection in Third World countries. All the donations from The Pineapple Fund come from bitcoin.
But what if instead of donating money, or cryptocurrency, one could donate their computing resources towards mining that goes directly to charity? It’s being done today, and we’re going to take a look at a few of the organizations that are running mining for charity operations. Read on to learn how you can help by donating your unused computing power.
Children’s Home Zagreb (DDZ)
Our first charity is called Children’s Home Zagreb — Dječji Dom Zagreb (DDZ). It’s an organization based in Croatia that provides care for unwanted children. They offer accommodation, education, support, and intervention, as well as helping the children find suitable adopted parents.
In the last 15 years DDZ has helped around 30 children each year to get adopted, but this number has been seen a rapid increase over time. The group believes that the situation will not improve on its own, particularly when considering the mass emigration of youth from Croatia that’s occurring now.
Funding for DDZ from cryptocurrency mining will help them offer better support for the children, have a larger influence for their outreach programs, and improve the conditions for the children staying inside the home.
The Mining4Charity group
You may be asking yourself, how can I participate in supporting worthy charities like DDZ? The answer in this case is for using a service called Mining4Charity.
Bitfalls and DigitalCalligraphy have joined forces to create the project which is focused on the use of computing power to create crypto and donate the proceeds to those who are less fortunate. Without getting too technical, people can use their computers to generate wealth.
The process for participating in the charity is simple. If you’re an experienced miner, all you need to do is set your hash rate for as long or short as you want to mine with rewards going to any of the following addresses:
If you’re a new miner, Mining4Charity has a guide and a configuration file that can help you set up this process automatically.
Anyone can help, pros and hobbyists alike
But what if you’re not a professional miner, or someone without serious mining hardware? The organization says that anyone with a graphics card can mine currencies like UBQ and Vertcoin, as even “symbolic amounts” can be helpful for the movement.
Alternatively, one can simply donate directly to any of the above addresses. As many cryptocurrencies can transact with next to zero fees, even just a few pennies can make a difference. Vertcoin, for example, can even be sent often with no transaction fees at all.
According to the official website, the group hasn’t brought in much just yet. They brought in around a thousand dollars or so worth of cryptocurrency at today’s rates. However, if more people are willing to get on board and donate their unused computing time, then they will almost certainly make a big difference for the children at DDZ.

What does this have to do with the Crypto Improvement Fund?
The goals and ideals of the Mining4Charity (http://mining4charity.eu/) project are what we, as a company, stand for.
The use of innovative and disruptive blockchain technology to do good and improve the world, is what every single individual who is involved in blockchain or cryptocurrency should support. Although the monetization of this industry is apparent, there should still be room for those who are attempting to selflessly use their understanding of the technology as a means to effectively improve the lives of those who have more serious concerns than many of us and lack the basic necessities and comforts we take for granted. This project is an exceptional use of blockchain technology and we hope for it’s continued success and mainstream adoption.
