Latest news about Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies. Your daily crypto news habit.
It’s been one week since I went down the ONO Social Network rabbit hole, and even as a self-described inspiration junkie, I feel like I have found something incredibly life-changing and revolutionary.
The ONO decentralized social media site is set to launch on April 15, 2018 which is only days away. Later on in June, ONO will be reborn on the EOS blockchain.
You might think this article will talk about the revolutionary aspect of the technology behind this project. No. The most revolutionary part of this project is not the blockchain, nor EOS, nor the DPOS + BFT consensus mechanism. Those are all amazing aspects, but not the one I’ll focus on.
No, the full significance of this article can be crystallized in this one utterance which Ke Xu said to a group of us recently:
“I Care.”This one sentence was not carefully crafted by some marketing team.
She had no idea I would write about her short but powerful text message. She did not text this to impress me or others. This came from a real person, who actually cares about people. She wants to improve our world by creating a social media platform that actually cares about its users and the people who build it. Her company is not being formed in order to collect our personal data. She wants to reinvent social media so that users are in control of their own data instead of companies.
This feeling I’ve been experiencing while in a deep dive inside the inner chambers of the ONO team is something that cannot be defined, reduced or quantified.
It’s the feeling you get when you meet someone who has good energy inside them and you feel as if it were a bolt of lightning, which releases the tension of your jaded nerves.
It’s an electricity whose source comes from a deep place, somewhere inside high intelligence mixed with compassion. This is a rare trait, and it’s often not particularly abundant at the top of the business food chain. Most people in leadership roles are simply power hungry. They are not the ones who can lead people in the right direction. They certainly don’t know what is best for average people. Ke Xu is different. She understands the needs of people, and I must admit, after observing her working day and night, she is the real deal, and someone I have massive respect for.

Light is what the crypto world doesn’t have enough of in its current state. The computer programming nerd cypherpunks who created the Bitcoin movement have been usurped by a mob of bloodthirsty crypto shitcoin traders, all looking for their next pump and dump scheme. Greed it seems has become the dominant trait of the “new decentralized world.”
However, there are people working tirelessly to create something valuable for society and Ke Xu is one of them.
I almost cringe when I write anything relating to the concept of caring. Let’s face it, it doesn’t make headlines, well, except in the case of Facebook’s total lack of caring. “Caring” gets no news coverage and it doesn’t hold our attention in the way that something more drama-inducing does. But it’s exactly what the world needs right now. Funny contradiction isn’t it? This mess with Zuckerberg exists because, let’s face it, he doesn’t care about you or me at all, well, not really.
He cares about Facebook’s world domination, at any cost, and that cost is our personal data and our privacy.
Now I will tell you why the ONO team decided against going the ICOÂ route.
The ONO Team is not doing an ICO because they want the ONO social ecosystem to be built and nurtured by social community builders, not speculators or other anti-social types who are not long-term investors. The ones who build out the social communities in ONO will be rewarded with ONOT, an ERC-20 token, and a lot of scrutiny will exist to determine the quality of the social engagement they build. This means that people who just spam others, or build a fake account bot army will be easily identified and will not be rewarded in any way.
The ONO Team values people who can cultivate deep social engagement and for this reason, the reward system will be set up to reward those who bring actual social engagement to the ONO platform.
Traders and speculators will be needed, of course, but at a later stage once the social ecosystem, which is fragile in the beginning stages, is fully built and properly taken care of. A social platform has specialized needs in the beginning, and the ONO team didn’t want speculators controlling their token, in some pump and dump manner in the beginning. Ke Xu, the founder of ONO has told me personally that she has refused a lot of investor money because the timing was not right and she didn’t want to lose control of the project. There will be future opportunities for investors though, when the time is right. It will be officially announced later on.
After she explained to me that she has refused investor money, my respect for her went even higher than it was previously. The ONO project is already well funded by investors who let her have full control over the development of the platform and she wants it to remain that way.
Ke Xu has discussed the idea of an airdrop to EOS holders, but the team is still in the discussion phase and no official news is yet released.

ONOT TOKENÂ DATA
Many of you have asked when ONOT will be available to purchase on exchanges. While there is no set date, it will be on an exchange in the summer of 2018, after the EOS blockchain has officially launched. Details will be released as soon as dates are solidified.
The official ONOT contract on the Ethereum Blockchain can be viewed using etherscan.io:
https://etherscan.io/token/0x19e835f70e6fd11be9acd3b737044abb07657a12
The ONOT token is an ERC-20 Ethereum token (which needs to be registered to an EOS wallet address) which can be stored using the imToken wallet: https://token.im/ (in the assets section search for ONOT)
If you’re interested in getting ONOT tokens, you can do a task on Candy Box to earn some: https://candy.one/
Candy.one is a site that is connected to Big.one, a crypto exchange. I have not yet withdrawn my ONOT from Candy.one, but I learned that you must create an account on Big.One in order to do this: https://big.one/ I also learned that Big.one requires KYC information on its customers, just like a lot of exchanges now do. Candy.one is more popular in Asia than other areas, but it does work in most countries. I had no issues signing up for an account and earning some crypto for tasks.
If you’re a social community builder, ONO is recruiting world-wide now, so please read Chapter 6 of the ONO White Paper to learn more: https://medium.com/@ONOsocial/ono-white-paper-part-6-common-programme-ec5956f17a04
