Even with many Irish-based institutions of higher learning taking it upon them to introduce and encourage people to learn more about blockchain through formalized education, many Irish citizens do not seem to be that interested in learning more about it. At least, this is the message being conveyed by the statistics collected from a new study.
Wachsman, a technology and public relations firm recently announced the findings of this survey which notes that even though the blockchain industry is in urgent need of educated personnel, close to ¾ of the Irish population would not consider joining a profession related to the cryptocurrency universe.
Blockchain Technology And Ireland
Ireland is one of the few countries across the globe that has chosen to endorse blockchain and the cryptocurrency universe. At the beginning of 2018, NUI or the National University of Ireland which had published a survey on the need to adopt blockchain technology formally approached the national government in a bid to get it to start promoting its use in the Irish Republic.
From the findings of this new report, the figures indicate that only forty percent of the companies based in the Irish Republic have formally chosen to adopt this technology. According to the researchers, these figures are quite low given that the country is currently listed in the thirteenth position across the globe in Bloomberg’s latest Innovation Index.
The reason for this rating is because the country is seen to have an advanced information technology infrastructure as well as very high productivity scores. According to David Wachsman, it seems that the situation in the country has not changed a bit, based on the findings obtained from the latest study.
David went on to state that it appears as though the people in this Irish republic are yet to understand the numerous benefits that can be garnered from using this technology. Some of the residents do not understand the wide-reaching nature of the blockchain technology and the numerous applications that it has come to be associated with.
Wachsman went on to argue that it appears as if the issues attributed to education are still present as most of the people who were surveyed did not appear to be well-informed on the role played by distributed ledger technologies as well as how it works. The findings from the Wachsman survey are an indication that a lack of good understanding still seems to play a role in hindering mass adoption.
Of the one thousand people who were interviewed, fifty percent blamed lack of proper education on matters pertaining to this technology for their reluctance to shift careers. Another ten percent of the respondents simply stated that they believed they did not possess the requisite skills necessary to shift careers.
David concluded by stating that there was a possibility that the republic could fall behind other countries when it came to the adoption of blockchain technology. This is despite the fact that the country currently holds an advantage over its neighbors in terms of government willingness to embrace blockchain technology.
