Despite the 2018 bear market, Bitcoin’s trade volume for 2018 has been quite impressive. This year, it has been trading at $2.2 trillion.
The total trading volume shows that there has been a 61 percent increase from the trading volume of last year, which was around $870 billion. It is important to note that when considering the 2017 trading volume, it has increased by 96 percent in 2017. With that, it is possible to say that 2017 was a better year for bitcoin.
Further, compared to Mastercard, whose trading volume for 2018 was $4.4 trillion, bitcoin has been faring quite well. Bitcoin reached half of the transaction capacity of Mastercard. Of course, there are those that can fairly state that such an analysis does not make sense because bitcoin and Mastercard are vastly different systems.
As a counter point though, cryptocurrency’s figures show that there is uptake in the area, and all in light of the negative rhetoric it has been facing and this year’s bear market.
