During 2017, OmiseGo was amongst the most hyped project on the crypto verse. They had a strong team and even ties to the crypto icon, Vitalik Buterin. This ensured that OmiseGo was one of the most promising crypto projects of the year.
However, things started going south soon after. The advisers for the project slowly went quiet. Besides that, the team proved that it was not capable of delivering on the promises they made and the community split into avid believers and harsh critics.
Recent Happenings
In a recent interview that was full of uncomfortable laughter, the CEO of OMG Jun Hosegawa had few solid plans. He did not clarify the direction of the project. Combined with his nonchalant approach to the entire interview, this left most of the OMG community quite angry. Hosegawa even claimed that Buterin had only played a minor role in writing the whitepaper and nothing more.
Buterin Responds
Buterin was not about to take this lying down and he responded on Reddit. He gave clear clarification on his role in the project, which was the opposite of what was claimed by Hosegawa.
Comment from discussion vbuterin's comment from discussion "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGSJk_F_dYs Scum Scamegawa's first pubic appearance representing OMG in a long time. When asked about Joseph Poon and Vitalik Buterin's involvement he quote says "They write prasma whitepaper but not rearry work on brockchain business"".Vitalik said that he had helped to create the plasma whitepaper. He also said that he played a crucial role in the Plasma implementation team, participated in discussions around the release strategy, DEX design, and much more. Buterin said that some of the work he did in the project did not fit into any given category. He was also an active participant in the development of the exchange. Vitalik said he would not have allowed them to use his name indiscriminately to promote the project if he had only written the whitepaper.
The Community’s Response
Various other members could see through the OMG lies and they had many unfavorable things to say. One claimed that he had been a major promoter for the project but he was now in distress. He was angry that Jun did not explain anything tangible to the community or to those who wished to join the project. He concluded that the community should not praise anything that came along, just because they were eager to get a few morsels of information from the creators.
Another user, replying to the Vitali Reddit said that the subreddit was purely dedicated to trolling OMG. It was also used to troll those who had invested in the highly speculative asset. Now, these people were blaming the team for their own mistakes. He added that anyone who had researched OMG could tell that Vitalik had contributed to more than just the whitepaper.
He added that he was thankful to Vitalik for all he had done to improve society. Then he wished him luck in any future projects. He told Vitalik to visit the official OMG sub if he wanted a serious discussion on the issue.
OMG Woes
In the recent past, OMG has been in free fall both in trust and market performance. Although the crypto world is used to disappointment, OMG has gone the extra mile to do so.
