Latest news about Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies. Your daily crypto news habit.
We see echoes in everything, whether it is in our history in our technology. Even for as new space as blockchain technology and digital currency, there are certainly echoes to see, even if they are speculative.
That is the kind of thing that we are seeing, courtesy of the Reddit Sub-forums. One forum member believes that there is something more than just coincidental upon a closer examination of two White Papers, which may take us closer to concluding Craig Wright as one of the founders of Bitcoin.
Within the forum discussion, the OP goes on to discuss what they believe to be more than coincidence between the 2001 White Paper ‘BlackNet‘ by Dr. Craig Wright, Lynn Wright, and Dave Dornbrack and the 2009 published ‘Bitcoin: A Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System' by the now in/famous ‘Satoshi Nakamoto.'
Delving into the first paragraph alone would make some go from a Skeptical view to a more suspicious expression:
DarkNet Excerpt – “A purely peer to peer version transaction system would allow online consideration to be sent directly from one party to another without going through an (un)trusted intermediary.”
Bitcoin Whitepaper excerpt – “A purely peer to peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.”
That initial sentence alone may be enough to swing it for some, but are there other similarities that tie these two papers together?
All Too Similar Similarities
BlackNet – “Digital Signatures provide part of the solution, but the main benefits are lost if a trusted third party is still required to prevent double-spending and replay.”
Bitcoin – “Digital Signatures provide part of the solution, but the main benefits are lost if a trusted third party is still required to prevent double-spending.”
The underlying concept of these two white papers, upon a closer examination, appear startlingly similar; going on to propose the same sort of solution, with only a small difference in wording separating the two.
Both propose a peer to peer network in order to remove the prospect of an ‘un/trustworthy third party' operating as an intermediary force. Both go on to discuss the prospect of a hashed proof of work consensus algorithm in order to both incentivize the community and process the vast amount of data in the absence of a third party.
Both also refer to a reliable network of nodes which support the processing of data, while safeguarding against external threats.
DarkNet – “As long as a majority of CPU power is controlled by nodes that are not cooperating to attack the network. They'll produce the longest chain and outpace attackers.”
Bitcoin – “As long as a majority of CPU power is controlled by nodes that are not cooperating to attack the netowrk. They'll produce the longest chain and outpace attackers.”
With so many similarities between the two, can we conclude that they boast the same authors? If the answer is yes, then that would provide a lot more credence for Dr Craig Wright's argument about him being the real Satoshi.
A Plausible Sham?
While this would make for an unbelievable new revelation, there are some critical questions that Redditors are foisting upon the OP.
One being where exactly they managed to obtain a copy of the abstract of the BlackNet white paper? Considering that it was held in secret by the Australian Government.
“FYI – this claim has not been verified.
This so called image appears to have been “leaked” from the Australian government who have kept it hidden up until now. That is over 10 years. Apparently this same government will now verify that this document actually exists which will prove CSW is Satoshi.
This is probably the most outrageous thing I've heard.
BSV camp have been brainwashed and are looking for positive PR boost after child porn was discovered on their blockchain.”
Lying Again?
Other redditors, such as Skoopitup have otherwise poked a semi-truck sized hole in this theory by publishing a side-by side comparison of a number of the documents, including a break down of some of the facts that don't make sense upon closer examination.
“On 10 february Craig Wright tried to convince people that he is Satoshi Nakamoto by releasing an abstract of a research paper called “Black Net” that he supposedly wrote for the Australian government in 2001. The abstract is almost identical to the official Bitcoin whitepaper of October 2008.”
“However, Satoshi had a draft in August 2008 of the Bitcoin whitepaper and when we compare the draft with the official Bitcoin whitepaper, we can see that the corrections made between August and October 2008 are also found in Craig's paper from “2001”. This proves again that he is a liar.”
What are your thoughts on this whole line of conversation? Is Craig Wright the real Satoshi? Or is this another attempt to obtain credibility that is not deserved? Let us know in the comments!
