The Story – According To Google
Back during the first quarter of 2018, a number of members of the tech sector like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, took a hardline stance towards cryptocurrency and blockchain products and their associated advertising. In effect, they explained that they sought to combat illegal players and projects that would mislead and potentially scam users, resulting in the blacklisting of crypto coins and ICOs.
This resulted in a negative reputation being branded on the likes of legal and legitimate cryptocurrency startups and companies – Including Trezor.
In spite of the ban being placed across its platform, however, Google search began to show a number of fraudulent sites that sported the Trezor logo. These being fake sites that were used for phishing data and money from an otherwise unaware digital community. Since then, the real team behind Trezor got into contact with the search engine giant through the medium of requests for an explanation to the situation.
Even with several requests being sent to the behemoth, it took Google a grand total of three months in order to respond to these requests. Over this same stretch of time, phishing Trezor sites had managed to launch a paid marketing campaign, meaning that their sites would rank even higher on search results.
Due to the ban still being in place on ICOs and cryptocurrency-based products, Trezor was unable to respond in kind against these scam sites.
A War That Continues To Rage
Even with these issues proving to be protracted, the Trezor team has assured its community that, with the assistance of Google, it has managed to take down the majority of these fraudulent pages that still masquerade under the name of Trezor.
At this moment in time, the platform is working alongside a number of search engines as well as mainstream social media in order to have the remaining fake sites taken down as soon as possible. The Google abuse team is taking an active role in this activity too.
Trezor once again takes the time to remind customers that the REAL team will never demand any kind of sensitive information such as passphrases of seed phrases, and goes on to encourage clients to deal only with the official website of the company, or verified partners.
