Global Pizza Restaurant Domino’s Now Accepting Bitcoin
Domino’s Pizza, Inc., (Domino’s), a highly reputed American Pizza restaurant chain established in 1960 has joined the growing league of stores accepting the world’s flagship cryptocurrency bitcoin (BTC) as legal tender, according to reports on February 14, 2019.
Domino’s Joins The Bitcoin Movement
Per sources close to the matter, Domino’s, a leading American pizza restaurant has added bitcoin to its list of payment options and customers of the restaurant can now buy their favorite pizza and pay with bitcoin via the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
For the uninitiated, the Lightning Network is a second layer protocol initially developed to solve the scalability and speed issues of the Bitcoin blockchain.
Now, thanks to Lightning, pizza lovers residing in the United States, can now pay with bitcoin in a super fast and cost-efficient way and get their delicious pizzas delivered to their doorsteps within 30 minutes.
Bitcoin, Altcoins And Lightning Network Slowly Gaining Global Adoption
If data from Statista is anything to go by, there are currently more than 14,856 Domino’s Pizza stores in numerous locations across the globe including China and even Nigeria.
Though it is still not clear whether bitcoin payments will be accepted in all its outlets across the world, Domino’s integration of bitcoin into its operations represents another significant milestone for the crypto space and distributed ledger technology (DLT) in general.
Currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as DPZ, Domino’s Pizza generated a whopping $2.47 billion in revenues in 2017, making a total of $214.68 million in profits.
With the latest development, Domino’s has now joined the steadily growing list of firms accepting cryptos, including ParaEasy, Pollo Feed, Vape Crypto and more.
A Steady Growth
Even in its Beta phase, the Lightning Network has been delivering on its promise of facilitating fast Bitcoin transactions at near zero fees and the network has seen excellent growth in recent times.
As reported by Bitcoin Exchange Guide on February 10, 2019, the Lightning Network search and Analysis Engine, the Lightning Network has seen a 15.40 percent increase in the total number of nodes (6,251 nodes), 34.2 percent increase in the number of channels (26,493 channels) and it can now seamlessly process more than $2.4 million worth of transactions.
Following the recent integration of bitcoin into the Square cash App, Bitcoin Exchange Guide informed on February 11, 2019, that the founder of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey has made it clear that the Square Cash App would soon start supporting Lightning.
