Input Output Global (IOG), the research and engineering firm helping build Cardano, announced the successful deployment of the Valentine upgrade, bringing with it the critical infrastructure needed to enhance interoperability and secure cross-chain development. This took place at 21:45 UTC on February 14th, 2023.
The new built-in functions to Plutus allow developers to use a wider range of multi-signature designs natively in Cardano, ultimately providing the highest level of security. Additionally, the support for Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) and Schnorr cryptographic signatures, two popular schemes used in blockchain platforms, widens the choice for developers to select the signature that’s tailored to their needs, without requiring a large amount of resources.
As the blockchain industry continues to mature, interoperability is critical in creating these ecosystems of ecosystems. The Valentine upgrade brings further interoperability to Cardano, expanding access while enabling users to interact with different blockchains to gain access to a wider range of services.
